We are here to answer your questions about medical debt relief and how you can support our mission to deliver hope.
Common Inquiries
How do we select medical debts for payment?
We partner with Undue Medical Debt to identify and purchase qualifying medical debt portfolios. These portfolios are made up of debts belonging to individuals who meet specific financial hardship criteria, allowing us to relieve burdens for those most in need in our community.
Do I need to apply for medical debt relief?
No, patients do not apply for our program. We identify qualifying medical debts based on specific financial criteria and retire them directly. Recipients will receive a formal notification from us confirming the relief.
How is The Great Physician Project funded?
The Great Physician Project is funded entirely through the generosity of donors, sponsors, and partners who share our commitment to helping individuals and families find freedom from overwhelming medical debt.
We operate as a ministry of Open Doors Ministries, a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. Through strategic partnership with Undue Medical Debt, donated funds are used to purchase and eliminate qualifying medical debt for those in need.
To sustain and grow this mission, we ask for a 20% administrative fee on all contributions. This helps cover essential overhead, ministry expenses, and operating costs—allowing us to continue expanding debt relief efforts while sharing the hope of the Gospel.
Every dollar given plays a vital role in bringing both financial freedom and lasting hope to individuals and communities.
Is the forgiven debt considered taxable income?
Generally, medical debt relief provided by a registered non-profit organization is not classified as taxable income by the IRS, offering recipients a true clean slate.
How will I be informed if my debt was paid?
We send a physical notification letter to your registered mailing address. This document serves as permanent proof that the medical debt has been settled and satisfied.
Can my organization, business, church participate in the project?
Absolutely. We welcome partnerships with organizations, businesses, and churches that share a heart for bringing hope and relief to those burdened by medical debt.
